A fun day out and about

Our grand foursome was out and about again this week.  I have been so looking forward to this day that the last two weekends I thought "oh, this Wednesday I have a day out planned" only to realize that no, it's not for 2 weeks yet and then no, it's not until next week.  Finally this past weekend I knew I had the right week.  YAY!

This time we ate breakfast at S. Clyde Weavers in their cozy cafe.  We had great coffee, hot breakfast and warm conversation.

From there we stopped at a local greenhouse.  We're all a little itchy to get our hands dirty. 

Bonnie and her mom are versed in all things green so it's a great education for me to hear how to pronounce certain scientific names correctly. 

I miss my "7 Days of Creation" perennial garden.  But I so enjoy all plants.  I like the different leaf patterns......

and of course, the colors....... always the colors....

Our next stop was to Columbia to revisit the Burning Bridge Antiques Market.

Our day out together the last time didn't give us enough time to visit all three floors so we returned to cover the bottom floor and then did a quick run through of their retro corner.  We found these delightful specs and had to give our mothers a look-see.

In this corner we also found things 'we used to have'.

I remember a set of these glasses in our home.  Glass covered with some kind of rubbery coating.

Mom says these red flowered glasses are 'peanut butter glasses'.  In this day of plastic everything it's hard to picture rows of peanut butter in these glass containers lining the shelves.

The set was priced at $15.00 so I'm thinking you should hang on to them if you have any.

I need to go through some of my old childhood boxes because somewhere I have one of these cat sets.  This one is plastic but mine is glass.  For some reason the long skinny legs of glass fascinated me as a child.  But as I type this I'm remembering that is was a set of deer.  I really must see if I can find them.

Some of our other finds......

We found this window with a layer of marbles against the back held in place by some fine, wire netting.  A lamp was turn on behind it giving it a stained glass effect.  The photos don't convey this effect well at all.

 I don't have window space to hang a 6 paned window like this one but someday when I'm bored I'm going to try it with a wooden 8x10 or 5x7 frame and see how it looks hanging on my patio door where the morning sun comes shining through. 

I like jars of marbles.......

and I like things with buttons.

It's fun to take a section like this one and survey every inch because you're sure to find something of interest.

Some dear soul collected skunks.

I found my personal favorite version Jay's dog....  a cast iron Toby.

But for $150 I left him standing sentry.

These shelves were filled with little, tiny minatures.  Would love to know what the story is behind them.  They reminded me of Cracker Box surprises.

After paying for our finds (no, not fines) we headed across the river for lunch.  It had been a full 5 hours since our breakfast and antiquing is extremely hard work so we were hungry again.

Asparagus quiche, a fresh salad with honey mustard dressing and a yummy crusty roll.  Anyone want my onion and cucumber slice?

Mom and I shared a delicious slice of Turtle Cheesecake - never thought of taking a picture.  Sorry.

We ate in the terrace room that they've glassed in but still provided a wonderful riverside view.

A day spent with these two and my mother is always a fun-filled day.  Bonnie has pictures on her camera that show more of that fun so when she sends them my way I'll post them.

Wish I had plans this Wednesday for a repeat.......
