The wheels on the bus go round and round

Saturday we chartered a bus to take our employees on a day trip to MD to visit 2 bison producers we work for.  The weather was great, the ride smooth and the day seemed to be enjoyed by all.  It was grand fun to hang out and have fun with those we work with all week – no USDA dress reg to follow, no time buzzers, no phones – just time to enjoy.

Our first stop – Twin Springs

Betz and Mr. Studly were waiting for us at the first stop and again Betz was the photographer for the day – all 603 pictures.  I promise to only share about half of them with you.  =)

Mr. Studly is employed by one of the bison producers, Gunpowder Bison Trading Company.  They have 3 locations were their bison are raised and at this one there is a small retail store and petting zoo.  But first we drove to the meadow where Mr. Studly tried to coax the bison to come closer with a snack.

On a previous trip this summer Jay & I had already been able to get close to the herd

DSCN1121 and also get a good visual on the King of the Pack. This picture below doesn’t convey his massive size- guestimate him to weigh between 1800 – 2200 lbs. and about 6’2” at his furry shoulders.   DSCN1132

We waited and waited ….

but the herd wasn’t interested in coming to see the folks who had driven an hour to see them.

So we headed down the road just a little way to stop at the Twin Springs Market where they sell fresh produce and bison meat.

Some people are natural born agitators – at work and at play. IMG_8978

Elianna was too much of a diva to want to touch the animals.

We loaded up the bus and headed for Stop 2 – the home place of Gunpowder Bison Trading Company.  Tomorrow’s post.

Mr. Studly led the way….. it was just a little over a year ago that we took pictures of the same view of this white truck and blue trailer… It was packed to the gils with Mr. Studly and Betz and their belongings headed to Montana.  This year we were all too pleased to be FOLLOWING him to our next stop – just down the road.
